Como April 2022 Recap

An unseasonably mild South Park winter has allowed volunteers to continue working in many areas during that time. They have worked Saturdays, even Sundays, and often into the evening to ensure progress on the restoration.

The tie recovery on Saturday, April 16 was very productive. The work was done by a small, hardworking group of dedicated volunteers. Their extraordinary effort yielded 285 ties--including15 ten-footers for switch construction. The ties were despiked and bundled, ready for pickup and delivery to Como. A complementary lunch was provided by Tom’s son, Tom Lawson.

Work on the locomotive has continued during this time as well. While the work on the #4 has become far more extensive than originally planned, volunteers are working tirelessly to get it running by Railroad Days. Along with the work on the #4, this year's track work is now being planned. The water tank project is progressing nicely. We have a great and dedicated group of volunteers that want to see the #4 run as soon as possible.

Here are some photos of the activities from these Projects. If you would like to get involved with the "hands on" part of the Como Project and come out to the site, Please contact our volunteer coordinator, Tom Lawson at tom.lawson@att.net.

The very hard day of work deserved an evening of enjoyment and satisfaction at Mike O’Shays Irish Tavern in Longmont.
