First Work Day of the 2024 Season — May 18th

The first Como Volunteer Work Day on Saturday May 18th was an extremely productive kick off!

We began the morning with welcome, introductions, safety and work plans with Bob Schoppe offering information.

Track crew worked on completing switch #8. (Dallas Meads, Ruth Heckman, Paul Blanchard, Rich Heckman, Jon Dierksheide & Road Master Alex Hois)

Volunteers began cleaning out the maintenance car shed for eventual preservation and storage of rail track cars. (Bob Schoppe, Paul Greguoti, Michael O’Neill & Miles Adler)

The engine crew worked on cylinder & driver alignment. (In pit - Dan Silbaugh, Jim McBee & Paul Marizza)

Bob Stephan replaced the glass panels in the visitors entrance doors damaged from wind storm last year.

Chris Tome, with his new dog, primed new Roundhouse window sills.

And we had visitors all day, with Volunteer Hosts Kay Kireilis & John Huth hosting and guiding our visitors!

Present and not captured in photos, Chef Scott Hebert, who prepared and feed volunteers, Joannah Keats, James Mackay, Elle Revis who helped with lunch & Bob Revis.

In addition, car #8311 was removed from Roundhouse, car #210 was relocated inside Roundhouse for repairs and runners were laid out for relocation rail to make room for new rail to arrive.
