Tie Recovery Day — Jan 14, 2022

Volunteers from the South Park Rail Society recovered ties from the BNSF Front Range Subdivision in Longmont, Colorado. Thank you to all volunteers who showed up and helped us with this major project to continue restoration efforts in Como!

Volunteers from all over the state started with a safety demonstration from BNSF’s Nick Ralston to ensure safety was the #1 priority.

The BNSF Denver/Laurel merchandise train came by mid-morning.

Lunch was provided by Ian and Tom Lawson.

Work Crew (L to R): Joey Knous, Jim Scoville, Steve Thompson, Chip Sherman, Steve Disher, Nick Ralston, Brian Delaplane, Jon Dierksheide, Steve Burt, Dave Seniw & Tom Lawson. Thank you all!

After harvesting 360 good ties along Price Road, the crew moved to Sunset Avenue to harvest more.

Unfortunately the location on Sunset Avenue turned into a quagmire of mud and harvesting was a bit more of a difficult job for the skid to steer and maneuver.

Celebrating a job well done at O’Shay’s, the volunteers prevailed and harvested and assembled 30 bundles or 510 ties to help with track laying efforts at the roundhouse and depot in Como.

A huge thank you to all volunteers who showed up to help!

Are you interested in volunteering to the South Park Rail Society? Let us know on our volunteer page. Can’t quite make it out to the roundhouse to volunteer? Any donation can help us continue our mission to restore and protect the Como railroad complex. We couldn’t do any of this without our volunteers and supporters. Thank you!
