Open House & 2024 Work Week - June 15th-June 22nd

The 2024 Volunteer Work Week was immensely productive!

Saturday June 15th:

Track Crew continued work on track #8 - Paul Reinhardt, Paul Blanchard, Jim Scoville, Miles Adler & Road Master Alex Hois.

Engine Crew continued work on Locomotive #4, Jim McBee, Mike Sharp, Tim Clay, Bob Revis & Larry Plume. Tim Clay in firebox taking measurements.

C&S #8311 received lettering - Tim Fade, George Matter & Luke Miller lead by Head Painter Norm Acker.

Preservation Crew continued work on track maintenance sheds, Aaron & Takoda Myers, Foreman Joey Knous, Paul Ggreguoli & Dallas Meads, reinforcing structure to be raised and insert supporting beams.

Chris Tome continued preservation of Roundhouse window sills. Bob Schoppe & Steve Sweighhofer continued preservation maintenance on Depot (pictured with visitors).

Being the first Como Open House with many visitors, Merchandise Manager Lauren Revis-Hebert     with April Myers were busy at the store. Scott Gudmundson & Brian Delephaine provided rides for visitors on the speeders.

Bob Revis relocated rail to make room for recovered rail to arrive.

Volunteers enjoyed lunch served by Chris Ruch & Leslie Cole.

Sunday June 16th:

Track Crew continued work on track #8, Road Master Alex Hois, Bob Schoppe, Paul Reinhardt, Jim Scoville & Paul Blanchard. Engine Crew Jim McBee, Tim Clay & Dan Silbaugh continued work on Locomotive #4.

Monday June 17th:

The Fairplay Girls and Boys Club paid a visit, hosted by Takoda & April Myers with help from Mike Sharp. Engine Crew Dan Silbaugh, Mike Sharp & Jim McBee continued work.

Track Crew continued track maintenance, Paul Blanchard, Mike Sharp, Paul Reinhardt, Bob Schoppe with two recovered historic C&S switch stands.

Tuesday June 18th:

Track Crew continued track maintenance, Bob Schoppe, Jim Scoville, Paul Reinhardt, Paul Blanchard, Patrick Hardin & Steve Thompson.

Wednesday June 19th:

Engine Crew Jim McBee, Dan Silbaugh & Mike Sharp continued work on the locomotive. Road Master Alex Hois & Mike Bottlemy continued track maintenance.

Joey Knous & Paul Greguoli continued preservation of track maintenance sheds, lifting the sheds 16 inches out of the ground.

Clark Stremke began the dismantling of the Roundhouse smokestacks preparing for storage. Bob Schoppe & Dave Seniw washed the visitor entrance upper windows.

Bob Schoppe with 1000 lb floor crane recovered by track crew. Debra Queen-Stremke hosted visitors.

Thursday June 20th:

Chris Tome began installation of new windows sills. Joey Knous & Paul Greguoli continued preservation of track maintenance sheds.

Zane Lewis painted the office door. Patrick Hardin began priming rider car #210 preparing for paint.

Friday June 21st:

Clark Stremke, Richard Heckman, Zane Lewis & Bob Schoppe carry out a smoke stack to be stored, (not a casket or pall bearers at a funeral). Michele Miller hosting excited visitors.

Paul Greguoli & Joey Knous continuing preservation of track maintenance sheds.

Saturday June 22nd:

Michael Bottlemy clearing grass at the entrance. Track Crew, Miles Adler, Road Master Alex Hois, Jim Scoville & Paul Reinhardt working on track #8.

Rob & Jacoby Van Winkle, Paul Greguoli & Joey Knous working on track maintenance sheds. Larry Plume inspecting and arriving to pick up locomotive parts to be machined.

Bob Stephan & Chris Tome working on Roundhouse windows. Debra Queen-Stremke hosting happy visitors.

Jim Scoville, Alex Hois, Bob Stephan, Paul Reinhardt, Clark Stremke, Paul Greguoli & Joey Knous, (not in photo Bob Revis operating telehandler), lifting smoke stacks into storage. Roundhouse Bay #6 cleared out, with Clark Stremke continuing clean out to obtain additional productive work space.
